Playa de El Rinconín

Playa de El Rinconín is an urban beach in Gijón that curves gently along the shore with soft sand and moderate wave conditions. The cove-like setting is framed by the coast and offers a sheltered feel for swimming.

This beach was reshaped during Gijón's urban development in the 20th century, when coastal paths and public recreational areas were added. The changes transformed the shoreline into a focal point for residents and visitors.

A sculpture called 'La madre del emigrante' stands near the shore, honoring mothers who said goodbye to children leaving Asturias for distant lands. The artwork connects visitors to stories of family separation that shaped the region's past.

The beach offers showers, toilets, and medical assistance for visitors, with parking available close by. It fills up quickly during peak times, so arriving early or on weekday mornings gives a better experience.

The water quality here is notably cleaner than at many other northern Spanish beaches due to the cove's natural circulation patterns. This makes it especially appealing for families with young children.
