Lisheen Castle, Gothic Revival castle in Thurles, Ireland
Lisheen Castle is a grey stone castle in County Tipperary with two floors, a central tower, a projecting gallery, and side turrets. The building occupies spacious lawns and displays the Gothic features typical of its construction period.
The castle was built in the early 1800s and suffered severe damage in 1921 during the Irish War of Independence. A major restoration effort began in 1994 and returned the structure to its original condition.
The castle incorporates Celtic murals on its ceilings and maintains traditional Irish architectural elements throughout its restored interior design.
The castle has nine bedrooms and can accommodate up to 16 guests with various rooms including a dining area, library, and reception space. Professional catering services are available for events and gatherings within the house.
The building sat abandoned for nearly eighty years before a three-year restoration project allowed its revival. During this work, the original structures were carefully preserved and the interiors were restored with Celtic ceiling murals.
