Yiftach Brigade Memorial in the Negev, War memorial cenotaph in Negev, Israel
The Yiftach Brigade Memorial is a war memorial cenotaph in the Negev region, spreading across an open area with eighteen concrete elements. The site features a perforated tower and a tunnel passage that give physical form to military experience and sacrifice.
The memorial was created by Chilik Arad to honor 324 soldiers of the Palmach Negev Brigade who fought in 1948. These fighters played a defining role in the early formation of the Israeli state in this region.
The site displays engraved names of fallen soldiers alongside diary passages and biblical verses in stone. These inscriptions tell personal stories and spiritual reflections that visitors encounter directly as they walk through the space.
The site is accessible by car via Road 40, located near Beit Kama and Rama Junction in the northern Negev. Driving to this open memorial area gives you a direct view of all the concrete structures without obstacles.
Each concrete structure on the site carries hidden meaning through its form. The perforated tower represents a shelled watchtower, while the tunnel passage recalls water channels that soldiers had to defend during the fighting.
