Beit Romano, Office building in Jaffa Road, Tel Aviv, Israel
Beit Romano is a four-story office building on Jaffa Road in Tel Aviv featuring shops on the ground level and commercial spaces with columned porches on the lower floors. The upper levels contain office areas that now house artists' studios and various workspaces.
The building was designed in 1947 by Meir Horman, Benjamin Anekstein, and Nathan Or Inziger and was originally named The Merchants' House after its owners Eliyahu Romano, Haim Romano, and Binyamin Tisona. It became significant in the early retail development of Israel.
The building now houses numerous artists' studios in its upper floors, while the ground level remains a commercial space for various retailers and businesses.
The central courtyard provides access for both vehicles and pedestrians and connects multiple entrances throughout the building. This layout makes it easy to navigate and move through different areas of the structure.
In 1948 this was one of Israel's first shopping centers, housing around 300 shops before the entire structure temporarily served as military administration offices. By 1952 it had returned to mixed commercial and creative use.
