Karlapat

Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary spans about 175 square kilometers of forested land in the Eastern Highlands with a mix of moist deciduous trees and open scrub areas. The landscape contains diverse plant life and provides habitat for numerous animal species across its various woodland zones.

The sanctuary gained official protection status in 1992 when the Ministry of Forest and Environment designated it as a protected wildlife area. This designation marked the beginning of formal conservation efforts for this woodland region.

Local people value this place as a source of medicinal plants and forest products that have been part of their daily practices for generations. The woodland here continues to play an important role in how nearby communities live and sustain themselves.

The sanctuary welcomes visitors daily, and the nearest town with transportation services is Bhawanipatna located at a short distance away. Plan to spend adequate time exploring the woodland areas and come prepared for a nature experience in forested terrain.

The sanctuary is home to Phurlijharan waterfall, which serves as a natural drinking water source for wildlife in the area. This waterfall also functions as a pleasant spot where visitors can experience the woodland and enjoy the surroundings.
