Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum

The Maharaja Chhatrasl Museum is a historical house in Dhubela that displays eight galleries within a former palace along the Chhatarpur-Jhansi highway. The collections include archaeological finds, religious artworks, and objects spanning different periods of Indian history.

The palace served as a residence for Maharaja Chhatrasal, who ruled Bundelkhand in the 17th century. In 1955, the building was converted into a museum to make the artworks and artifacts stored there accessible to the public.

The galleries display copper plates, inscriptions, and sculptures from the Gupta period, along with extensive Jaina artwork and religious objects. These pieces reflect the artistic traditions and beliefs that shaped life in this region over centuries.

The museum is located roughly 50 kilometers from Khajuraho airport and about 20 kilometers from Chhatarpur railway station. You can reach it easily by car or local transport from these main entry points.

Two dedicated galleries focus on ancient Sati pillars and inscribed lingas from the Gupta and Kalachuri periods. These objects are rarely documented elsewhere and show religious practices that ran deep in this region.
