Sister Nivedita established the school on November 13, 1898, during Kali Puja, with Sri Sarada Devi conducting the inauguration in presence of Swami Vivekananda.

The institution provides education from primary through secondary levels, with separate management for primary classes since 1949 and affiliation to West Bengal Board.
The industrial section, initiated in 1903, teaches traditional handicrafts like embroidery and tailoring, with annual exhibitions displaying student creations.
