Ranganadi Dam

Ranganadi Dam is a concrete gravity structure across the Ranganadi River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra, standing 68 meters tall and extending about 339 meters in length. The edifice creates a reservoir and shapes the landscape of Lower Subansiri District.

Construction started in 1988 and finished in 2001, marking a major step forward in northeastern India's power development. The completion changed how electricity reached remote parts of the region.

The dam construction integrated local engineering expertise with modern technology while considering the traditions of indigenous communities in Arunachal Pradesh.

The best time to visit is during drier months when roads are passable and the weather stays steady. The location is remote, so bring water and snacks and consider hiring a local guide for orientation.

Water travels through a hidden tunnel system stretching over 10 kilometers before reaching the power plant. This underground network remains invisible to visitors but plays a central role in how the facility operates.
