Padanayarkulangara Mahadeva Temple

Padanayarkulangara Mahadeva Temple is a Hindu temple near the Pallikkal River in Karunagappally that displays traditional Kerala architectural style with a central shrine and supporting structures. The complex is organized around the main sanctuary, with features typical of ancient Kerala temple design.

The area was once part of the Ay dynasty's territory before coming under Odanad rule and then the Travancore kingdom. These shifts in authority marked different periods in the region's history and shaped the way religious centers developed.

This is one of Kerala's 108 principal Shiva temples, where visitors can observe daily rituals and religious ceremonies that reflect centuries of devotional practice. The site brings together people who come to participate in worship and experience the living traditions that have shaped the region's spiritual identity.

The temple sits along National Highway 47 with views toward Sasthamcotta road, positioned roughly 20 kilometers from Kollam city. Getting there by local public transport or a rented vehicle is straightforward, as the location is accessible from nearby towns.

A Buddha statue from the 9th century was discovered in nearby Marathurkulangara, showing that the region once held multiple religious traditions side by side. This archaeological find reveals that the area was a meeting point for different spiritual practices across centuries.
