Ashram Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, Hindu temple in Kollam district, India.
Ashram Sree Krishna Swamy Temple sits on the shores of Ashtamudi Lake with a central shrine dedicated to Krishna in Navaneet form. The complex includes multiple chapels for different deities such as Swamy Ayyappan with 18 sacred steps, Naga Devatas, and the Navagrahas for worship.
The temple was built on an elevated mound formed from excavated earth that later became the foundation for the temple pond. This construction method shows how the landscape was intentionally reshaped to create a water-rich setting.
The temple comes alive during Kollam Pooram in mid-April, when traditional Panchavadyam music and elephant processions fill the grounds. These ten-day celebrations shape the region's spiritual calendar and draw devotees who gather to participate in the festival together.
The grounds offer open access for visitors to explore the different chapels and shrine areas with ease. Arriving early in the day is best, as the space is quieter and allows visitors to move through at their own pace.
The Ayyappa shrine contains an exact replica of Sabarimala temple's famous 18 sacred steps within its structure. This replica allows visitors to experience this important pilgrimage feature in this location as well.
