Crowther Masonic Hall, Masonic building in Kollam, India
Crowther Masonic Hall is a two-story building located near Kochupilamoodu that displays architectural elements influenced by British colonial design. The structure features characteristic style elements from that colonial era that remain visible today.
The hall was established in 1806, marking the founding of Kerala's first Masonic lodge, originally named Travancore Union. This establishment was a significant moment for spreading Freemasonry across South India.
The hall functions as a gathering point for Masonic members in the Kollam region, where they hold regular meetings and ceremonial events throughout the year.
The location is roughly 700 meters (2300 feet) from Kollam Junction railway station, making it fairly accessible by train. Visitors should know that lodge activities take place monthly on the first Sunday.
Local residents successfully prevented the demolition of this structure in 2009, when it was proposed for replacement by a court complex. This preservation effort shows how the community valued keeping the historical building intact.
