Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Police Museum, Police museum in Kollam, India.
The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Police Museum is a police museum in Kollam, Kerala, displaying uniforms, equipment, weapons, and documents from the history of Indian law enforcement. The collection covers a long period, from early colonial times to the present day, and is arranged across several rooms inside a dedicated building.
The museum opened in 2000, founded by the Kerala Police Department to document the history of policing in India and honor officers who lost their lives on duty. It was named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister, who played a central role in shaping the country's police structure after independence.
The Martyr's Gallery honors police officers who dedicated their lives to service in India. Visitors can see how their contributions are remembered and celebrated within the institution.
The museum is within walking distance of Kollam Junction railway station, making it easy to reach without a vehicle. Visiting in the morning is a good idea, as it tends to be less busy than later in the day.
A statue of Vallabhbhai Patel inside the museum was sculpted by a police constable, not a professional artist, and weighs around 1 ton (about 900 kilograms). It was installed in 2005 and stands as a rare case of a serving officer contributing a work of art to the institution.
