Scott’s Bungalow, Seringapatam

Scott's Bungalow is a colonial residence standing on the banks of the Cauvery River in Seringapatam, roughly half a mile from the Mysore Gate. The house sits among local trees and green surroundings that shade the property.

Colonel Scott of the Madras Army lived here during the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799, when the region was under military control. The bungalow remained significant to the story of this military period in the area.

Walter Yeldham's 1875 poem The Deserted Bungalow narrates the story of Colonel Scott and the events that occurred at this residence.

It is best visited during quieter times since the property is small and can feel crowded with groups. Wear sturdy shoes since the ground can be uneven around the building.

Inside the house was once a large ivory bed that had belonged to Sultan Tippu, documented by visitors in the early 1900s. This unusual piece of furniture connects the resident's story to the local ruler's past.
