Chatra block, Community development block in Chatra district, India
Chatra block is an administrative area in Chatra district in Jharkhand covering several hundred square kilometers at an elevation of about 500 meters. The region contains approximately 167 villages with a population of around 100,000 residents.
The block was established in 1991 following the separation from Hazaribagh district, marking a significant administrative change in the region. This division allowed for more localized governance and development initiatives.
Residents speak primarily Hindi and Urdu and maintain traditional practices visible in their daily community life and social gatherings. This linguistic diversity reflects the region's varied population and shapes local identity.
Most villages are primarily agricultural, with farming serving as the main livelihood for a significant portion of the population. Visitors should know that only some villages have electrical access, so infrastructure may be limited in certain areas.
The area is heavily forested, with woodlands covering roughly two-thirds of the total land and playing an important role in the local economy. These forest resources support agricultural activities and shape the region's landscape.
