Jangali Jayagad, Military fort in Satara district, India

Jangali Jayagad is a fort situated on a hillside spur extending from the Sahyadri mountain range in Satara district. The structure sits at about 965 meters (3,165 feet) and is surrounded by dense forest that covers the landscape around it.

The fort was built as a strategic lookout point during the Maratha period to protect the lands below from attack. This fortification played an important role in the region's defense system during that time.

A temple dedicated to a local goddess and a water well sit inside the fort walls, showing how people worshipped and lived in this region. These structures reflect the daily religious beliefs and building traditions of settlements in historical Maharashtra.

Visitors must get permission from the forest office in Koyananagar and hire authorized guides from Nawja village before attempting the trek. The path goes through forest terrain and requires basic trekking preparation.

The fort sits on a migration route used by Indian Gaur, large wild cattle that regularly pass through the area. Visitors often spot hoof prints and animal trails pressed through the vegetation from these massive creatures.
