Chintur mandal, Administrative division in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, India.
Chintur mandal is an administrative division in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, with Chintur town as its headquarters. The mandal sits in a forested, hilly area near the borders with Telangana and Odisha, and covers several villages across this terrain.
This area was part of Khammam district until 2022, when a state-level reorganization moved it into the newly formed Alluri Sitharama Raju district. The new district takes its name from Alluri Sitharama Raju, a freedom fighter from this part of Andhra Pradesh who led a tribal uprising in the early 20th century.
The Koya tribal community is a visible presence in the villages of this mandal, and their customs can be noticed in local markets and seasonal gatherings. Alongside Telugu, the Koya language is spoken in many settlements, giving the area a character different from most of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Chintur town is reachable by road, but the routes into more remote parts of the mandal can become difficult during the monsoon season. If you plan to visit outlying villages, it is worth asking locally about current road conditions before setting out.
The Sabari River, a tributary of the Godavari, runs through the mandal and is one of the few rivers in this part of Andhra Pradesh that holds water even in the dry season. Fishing communities have long settled along its banks, and the river still plays a practical role in daily life for people in the surrounding villages.
