Alluri Sitharama Raju district

This administrative district occupies the eastern mountain range of Andhra Pradesh, covering forested ridges and deep river valleys. The terrain rises from lowland plains to over 1,200 meters, forming a landscape of green hills and rocky peaks.

The region became a separate district on April 4, 2022, named after a man from the independence movement. His birthplace lies in these mountains, where he fought against colonial rule in the early 20th century.

The place takes its name from a freedom fighter born in this region, whose memory you encounter throughout the area. Tribal groups live in the mountains, their villages scattered across the slopes and their languages heard in local markets.

The center in Paderu handles public services for the entire area, which divides into smaller administrative units. Roads wind through mountain passes and along valleys, with distances between settlements often requiring several hours of travel.

A river changes its name as it flows through the mountains, known by different names at different points. The water powers generation facilities that you can spot along the gorges.
