Tatipudi Reservoir, reservoir in India
Tatipudi Reservoir is a reservoir in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, formed by a dam built across the Gosthani River. The water spreads out between gently rolling hills, with flat grassy banks on the edges and a wide, open water surface that reflects the surrounding landscape.
The dam was built in 1963 to supply drinking water to Visakhapatnam city and to support farming in the surrounding villages. What started as a purely functional project gradually became a place where people from the region come to spend time outdoors.
The name Tatipudi refers to the local village near which the dam was built, grounding this water body firmly in the landscape and identity of the area. Fishing is a common activity along the shores, and small groups of people can often be seen resting or walking near the water on weekends.
The reservoir is a short drive from S.Kota town, and the easiest way to get there is by hiring a private vehicle, as public transport to the site is limited. The cooler months between October and February make for a more comfortable visit, as the heat in other months can be intense.
Between April and May, migrant birds arrive in large numbers at the reservoir, making it a draw for birdwatchers during those weeks. Early mornings near the water are the best time to spot many different species before the day heats up.
