Tatipudi Reservoir, reservoir in India
Tatipudi Reservoir is a large water body built across the Gosthani River in Vizianagaram district, designed to manage water flow and supply resources to the region. The site features a dam structure, grassy shores lined with vegetation, and wide water surfaces ringed by rolling hills and natural greenery.
The reservoir was constructed in 1963 across the Gosthani River to supply drinking water to Vizag city and support farming in surrounding areas. Over time it evolved from a purely functional water storage project into a destination where both locals and travelers visit for recreation.
The reservoir serves as an important water source for the surrounding farming communities and is deeply woven into local daily life. On special occasions, villagers gather at the shores for festivals and traditional celebrations, turning the water body into a gathering place for the community.
The site sits about 8 kilometers from the main Araku-Vizag road and is best reached by hiring a private vehicle from S.Kota town or nearby transport hubs. Visit during cooler months for the most comfortable experience, and plan for 45 minutes to two hours depending on whether you wish to take a boat ride or simply walk the shores.
The reservoir attracts significant bird populations, especially from April to May, when migrant species arrive and fill the area with activity and song. Birdwatchers often time their visits during these months to see the seasonal diversity of species that pass through the region.
