Kailasagiri, Hilltop park in Visakhapatnam, India
Kailasagiri is a hilltop park in Visakhapatnam that spreads groomed paths, viewpoints and small pavilions across a wide green expanse. The layout follows the ridge with views over the water and the city below, connected by paved walks that weave between flower beds and shady trees.
The city administration began in the mid-1970s to replant the bare hilltop and transform it into a recreation area. Over the following decades, paths, sculptures and a cable lift were added, turning the site into a steady draw for locals and travelers alike.
The park takes its name from Mount Kailash, the holy peak in Hindu belief where Shiva and Parvati are said to dwell. A large sculpture of the two deities sits at the highest point, visible from a distance and a gathering spot for visitors who come to photograph or quietly spend time.
A cable lift brings visitors from the foot of the hill to the top, running daily until evening. Those who prefer to walk can climb the paved paths, but should be ready for steep sections and wear comfortable shoes.
A small train on rails travels a slow loop along the hilltop edge, offering a gentle ride with shifting views of the coastline. The journey takes around twenty minutes and is popular with families and children who enjoy the easy pace and the outlook.
