Cypress Provincial Park, Provincial park in Metro Vancouver Regional District, Canada
Cypress Provincial Park is a mountainous area in the North Shore Mountains featuring forests, alpine meadows, and glacial lakes. The terrain varies greatly across different elevations, creating diverse landscapes within the reserve.
The area was designated as a protected park reserve in 1944 following earlier logging operations in the mountains. This protection helped preserve the remaining forests and natural features for the future.
The forest here contains old yellow cedar trees bearing bark-stripping marks from Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations harvesting practices. Walking through these areas, you can see evidence of long-standing Indigenous use of the land.
Winter visitors can access skiing with multiple chairlifts running across one of the North Shore's largest ski areas. Conditions vary greatly throughout the season, so checking local information before visiting is helpful.
The park hosted snowboard and freestyle skiing events during the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver. You can still see the specialized courses and infrastructure built for those competitions.
