Lauteraar Hut, Mountain hut in Bernese Alps, Switzerland.
Lauteraar Hut is a mountain refuge in the Bernese Alps located at about 2,400 meters elevation. It sits above the Unteraar Glacier and serves as a base for climbers exploring this alpine region.
The hut was built as a replacement for the older Pavillon Dollfus to provide climbers with shelter in this remote area. Founded by the Swiss Alpine Club, it has remained an important base for expeditions in the region.
The SAC Zofingen manages this alpine refuge, maintaining Swiss mountaineering traditions by providing shelter and support to climbers exploring the Bernese Alps.
The hut is reached via a multi-hour hiking trail from Grimsel Hospiz, taking roughly 4 to 5 hours on foot. Accommodation is limited and operations focus on the summer months, requiring planning ahead.
From here, climbers have direct access to several peaks over 4,000 meters, including Lauteraarhorn, making it a favored launching point for serious alpine mountaineering. This proximity to major summits attracts experienced alpinists from across Europe.
