Curuna Lada, Mountain summit in Graubünden, Switzerland
Breite Krone is a summit in the Silvretta Alps rising to 3,079 meters with a distinctive broad crown-shaped peak that gives the mountain its German name. It sits near the Swiss-Austrian border and can be reached from either Heidelberger Hütte or Jamtalhütte.
The mountain has served as a natural boundary marker between Switzerland and Austria for centuries in the Alpine region. It functioned as a geographical reference point that helped define the border between these two nations.
The peak carries two names, Curuna Lada and Breite Krone, reflecting the linguistic traditions of the Graubünden Alps where both Romansh and German are spoken. This dual naming shows how local and international climbers use different languages to refer to the same mountain.
The ascent can be made from either of two mountain huts, with the final stretch from Kronenjoch taking about 30 minutes and requiring no rope equipment. Plan to give yourself enough time for the approach and climb so you can descend safely if weather turns bad.
The summit creates a natural platform where visitors can see the surrounding Alpine landscape in all directions from the peak. This flat summit area offers a rare opportunity for a complete view of the Silvretta Alps from one spot.
