City University of Hong Kong, Public research university in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong.
City University of Hong Kong is a public research university in Kowloon Tong with nine academic schools and numerous research centers spread across 15.6 hectares (38.6 acres). The site includes modern laboratory facilities, lecture halls, and a central administration building connected by covered walkways.
The institution began in 1984 as City Polytechnic of Hong Kong, initially focusing on vocational degree programs. Following rapid growth in student numbers and several campus expansions, it gained full university status in 1994.
The campus reflects a mix of Chinese and Western educational traditions, with classes conducted mainly in English. Students from over 50 countries use the library and shared study areas that remain open late into the evening.
The campus sits directly next to Festival Walk shopping center and has its own connection to Kowloon Tong MTR station on the East Rail Line. Visitors can explore public areas during daytime hours, while most academic buildings are busiest during semester periods.
The Yeung Kin Man Academic Building uses a color-coded system on walls and floors to help visitors navigate through different departments. Each color corresponds to a specific academic area, making it easier to move through the multi-story structure.
