Tianning Temple, Buddhist temple in Changzhou, China
Tianning Temple spreads across a large complex with eight main halls, twenty-five pavilions, twenty-four towers, and additional structures forming the grounds. The site displays classical Buddhist architecture arranged across multiple levels with carefully designed spaces.
The temple was founded between 627 and 655 CE during the Tang Dynasty under its original name, Guangfu Temple. In 1111, it received its current name and became an important center of Buddhist practice in the region.
The Arhat Hall contains 500 individually crafted statues that represent Buddhist artistic traditions and spiritual practice. Visitors experience these figures as expressions of religious devotion and skilled craftsmanship.
The complex is accessible by multiple bus routes and Changzhou Metro lines 1 and 2 at Wenhuagong Station. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as exploring the different sections involves considerable walking across the grounds.
The central pagoda was completed in 2007 and stands as one of the tallest Buddhist pagodas in the world. This modern structure blends contemporary building techniques with traditional Buddhist architectural design.
