St. Francis Cathedral of Xi'an

St. Francis Cathedral presents a neo-Romanesque front facade with three arched entrances, decorated brick carvings, and traditional Chinese patterns integrated into its design.

Italian missionary Antonio Laghi established this cathedral in 1716, facing initial opposition from the Qing government before completing construction in 1727.

The cathedral represents religious adaptation in China through its architectural elements, combining European church designs with local Chinese decorative patterns.

Located at 17 Wuxing Street in Xi'an, the cathedral spans 700 square meters and accommodates 500 people for regular services and religious ceremonies.

The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus operate the Yellow River Soup Kitchen from this location, providing meals to local communities since 2005.
