Pabellón Temático, Exhibition pavilion in Shanghai, China
The Theme Pavilion is an exhibition building in Shanghai with architecture inspired by traditional Shikumen residential design. The structure spans multiple levels with climbing plants covering the facades and solar equipment installed on the roof.
The building was created for the 2010 World Exposition held in Shanghai from May to October. It remains one of only five permanent structures retained after the exposition ended and continues to serve the public today.
The pavilion hosts exhibitions exploring how people live together in modern cities and share urban spaces. Visitors can observe how different communities organize daily activities and adapt to city living.
The building is best explored on foot and can be accessed through multiple entrances. Comfortable shoes are recommended as the space spans several levels and involves considerable walking throughout.
The pavilion roof is equipped with solar panels that generate electricity for the building's daily operations. This renewable energy solution was an important part of the sustainability approach when the structure was originally designed.
