South Horizons station, MTR metro station
South Horizons station is an underground metro stop in southern Hong Kong located on Ap Lei Chau island. The structure has a distinctive Y-shaped design with two platforms, practical access points to surrounding residential areas, and a main concourse level with ticket counters, shops, and ATMs.
The station opened at the end of 2016 and was built as part of a project to extend the metro system to southern Hong Kong. Construction began in 2011 using the cut-and-cover method, where a trench is dug, the station built, and then covered over again.
The station takes its name from the South Horizons housing estate it primarily serves. It functions as a daily gathering point for residents and visitors, where people briefly meet before continuing their journeys through the city.
The station is easily accessible through three exits, including an 80-meter footbridge that leads to residential areas. Elevators and escalators provide convenient access for all visitors, and clear signage in multiple languages helps with navigation.
Inside the station are two art installations that make the space more inviting. A glass wall displays shadows of trees hinting at nature, while a platform mosaic shows a seascape created with the help of children and an artist.
