Belcher's Hill, Scenic hill in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong.
Belcher's Hill is a natural hill in the northwestern part of Hong Kong Island, reaching about 253 meters at its highest point. Several hiking trails cross the hillside and lead to viewpoints overlooking Victoria Harbour and the surrounding urban districts.
The hill was named after Sir Edward Belcher, a British naval officer who mapped Hong Kong in the 19th century. It was common practice during that period to name local landmarks after officers involved in the early survey of the territory.
The hill sits next to the University of Hong Kong campus, and many students walk its paths as part of their daily routine. This closeness to the university gives the area a relaxed, campus-like feel that is easy to notice on a weekday morning.
The trails are walkable year-round, though the cooler months between autumn and early spring make for a more comfortable outing. Morning visits tend to offer clearer views over the harbor before haze builds up during the day.
The old boundary of Victoria City runs along the northern side of the hill, following the 210-meter contour line. This administrative line, drawn in the colonial era, can still be traced on maps and on the ground today.
