Mount Davis rises 269 meters (883 feet) above Hong Kong Island's western edge, featuring multiple military structures scattered across its slopes. Connected pathways allow visitors to explore the summit area and navigate between different sections of the mountain.
The British military built five 9.2-inch gun emplacements on Mount Davis in 1911 as part of island defenses. These fortifications were destroyed during the Japanese invasion in 1941, leaving only ruins behind.
The Chiu Yuen Cemetery on the eastern slope holds graves of many influential Eurasian families who shaped Hong Kong over generations. Walking through the grounds, you can see how different traditions come together in the burial practices and grave markers.
Visitors start the walk from Mount Davis Path, which branches off from Victoria Road in Kennedy Town. Getting there is easy with public transport options from nearby Kennedy Town station.
An ionospheric research station operated by the University of Hong Kong has been measuring atmospheric conditions at this location since 1969. This scientific facility remains largely invisible to casual visitors but contributes to important weather and atmospheric research.
