Taining Geology Park, UNESCO Global Geopark in Taining County, China
Taining Geology Park is a UNESCO Geopark in Taining County featuring steep cliffs, deep valleys, and layered rock formations shaped by millions of years of geological movement. The park displays multiple valleys, waterways, and stone features that create distinct scenic zones across the landscape.
The area was established in 958 and contains ancient walls and gates from that original period, along with a Ming Dynasty mansion from later centuries. These structures show how the location remained important through different historical periods.
Local people use these lands for farming and daily life, and you can see how communities have lived alongside the rocky landscape for generations. This creates a natural rhythm where villages sit nestled between stone formations and water features.
The park is reached by train to Taining County from nearby cities, then by local bus to reach different areas and viewpoints. Multiple entry points and trails exist for visitors of different abilities.
Nine-Dragon Pond consists of nine connected springs varying in width from 100 feet (30 meters) to just 3 feet (1 meter), bordered by distinctive reddish stone formations. This water feature creates one of the most visually striking sections of the park.
