Huaxilou

Huaxilou is a historical theater in Bozhou featuring a three-opening gateway entrance and a 36-meter tall structure decorated with extensive dragon and flower patterns throughout. The architecture displays traditional Chinese craftsmanship techniques in its design elements.

This structure was built in 1815 during the Guangxu Dynasty as part of a complex dedicated to the local water deity Yangsi. This connection to regional religious practices shaped the building's original purpose.

The theater showcases detailed woodcarving and porcelain dragon artwork that demonstrates traditional Chinese artistic methods and mythological themes.

The building sits roughly 200 meters from Danjiangkou wharf and is protected as a national cultural site. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as exploring the multistory structure requires climbing stairs.

The building uses an innovative cone cage construction system that eliminates the need for support columns in upper sections. This engineering approach was unusual for its time and demonstrates advanced structural knowledge.
