Three Gorges Waterfall, Monumental waterfall in Huanghua, China

Three Gorges Waterfall is located in the Three Gorges region along the Yangtze and drops over a steep rock face to create a powerful cascade visible from viewing platforms. The water falls in a single main column before dispersing into spray at the base, framed by the surrounding canyon walls.

The Three Gorges region has served as an important passage along the Yangtze for centuries of commerce and travel across China. Natural features in this area shaped the routes of merchants and influenced settlement patterns throughout the region.

The waterfall is also called Baiguo Tree Waterfall, after the white-fruit trees (baiguo) of the area around Xingping Village in Huanghua Township. The name links the cascade to the village landscape rather than to the Yangtze gorge itself.

The waterfall stands in Xingping Village, Huanghua Township, Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei. It is a 4A-rated scenic area with a drop of 102 metres and a width of 80 metres. Paths and viewing platforms give access to the falls; sturdy shoes and rain protection are useful near the rocky, spray-wet ground.

The waterfall's other name, Baiguo Tree Waterfall, comes from the Chinese for ginkgo, and the site lies in Xingping Village, Huanghua Township, Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei. Its measured drop is 102 metres with a width of 80 metres, and it holds national 4A scenic-area status.
