Druckluft, Youth and cultural center in Oberhausen, Germany
Druckluft is a youth and cultural center in Oberhausen featuring three performance stages, multiple group rooms, workshops, a café, technical equipment, and dedicated rehearsal spaces for artists. The facility provides space for various artistic activities and events all under one roof.
The center was founded in November 1979 as a self-managed youth facility to provide independent spaces for the local community. This founding reflected young people's desire at the time to create their own venues for cultural and social activities.
The center hosts music performances across genres like punk, hip-hop, jazz, and electronic music, regularly complemented by readings and themed events. Visitors experience a varied artistic scene shaped by the audience and performers who gather here.
Visitors under 27 years old receive free coffee, tea, and water, while the center provides complimentary vegan meals every Tuesday at 18:00. The facility is designed so that visitors of different ages and interests can find practical support and refreshments.
The Open Stage program takes place on the last Wednesday of each month, allowing performers to showcase their talents for about 20 minutes. This regular event provides emerging artists with an important opportunity to perform before a live audience.
