Sender Haardtkopf, Radio transmitter tower in Hunsrück region, Germany.
Sender Haardtkopf is a radio transmitter tower in the Hunsrück region located on a mountain peak near Gornhausen at approximately 658 meters above sea level. The facility consists of a 136-meter main tower and a separate 74-meter steel lattice mast that handles mobile communications and directional radio services.
The original tower was built in 1952 with a triangular cross-section and glass fiber cylinder design. A major renovation in 2019 replaced this older structure with the current steel lattice configuration.
The transmitter broadcasts multiple SWR radio stations that provide regional content and news coverage for the Rhineland-Palatinate population.
The site sits on an elevated mountain ridge, requiring a climb to reach the facility. Access is limited since the area primarily serves broadcasting operations rather than visitor access.
The 2019 reconstruction deliberately omitted UHF antenna platforms, marking the end of television broadcasting from this location. The new facility now focuses exclusively on radio and mobile phone services.
