Haus Solms, Wedding venue and guesthouse in Karlsruhe, Germany
Haus Solms is a building in Karlsruhe that serves as a wedding venue and city guesthouse. The interior contains three ceremonial rooms decorated in Baroque, Neoclassical, and Old German styles with ornate stucco ceilings and wooden details.
The building was constructed between 1881 and 1882 by architect Gustav Ziegler and initially served as a retirement home for industrialist Georg Heimburger. Later, Count Solms purchased the property and gave it his name.
The exterior displays allegorical reliefs, including the figure of Hermes on Reinhold-Frank-Straße and scenes from the Franco-Prussian War on Bismarckstraße. These decorations tell stories about the ideals and events of the era when the building was created.
The building at Bismarckstraße 247 hosts civil wedding ceremonies and serves as an official city guesthouse throughout the year. Visitors can explore the interior spaces, though advance notice is advisable for larger groups.
The interior houses portraits by the renowned painter Franz von Lenbach and a collection of 17th-century vessels made from porcelain, glass, silver, and enamel. These precious objects provide a window into the artistic taste and refinement of earlier inhabitants.
