Baischstraße, Art Nouveau villa colony in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Baischstraße is a private street with six single-family houses built in the Art Nouveau style between 1900 and 1903. All buildings feature sandstone facades and varied designs that were influenced by Parisian architecture.
Hermann Billing created these residential houses as a modern housing project for wealthy clients. The street emerged from a combination of German craftsmanship and French influence of that era.
The houses show how wealthy families wanted to live around 1900, with elaborate facades and carefully crafted details. Visitors can still see the craftsmanship of that era in every building.
The street is located near Kaiserplatz and can be easily reached from Stephanienplatz. Visitors can view the houses from the outside and explore the neighborhood on foot.
One of the houses was named Haus der goldenen Eva and served as Billing's own residence. The building was known for its striking gilded female figure on the facade.
