Kaninchenwerder

Kaninchenwerder is a small island in Schwerin Lake featuring forests, open areas, and an observation tower. Walking trails connect different parts of the island, offering views across the water and its natural surroundings.

The island was first documented in 1407 and later became the site of a brickyard that operated until the 1800s. These early human activities shaped the land before it became a nature reserve.

The island serves as a habitat for rare plants and bird species that visitors can observe from the paths and viewpoints. The landscape reflects how nature is carefully protected and allowed to grow undisturbed.

Ferry service connects the island to the mainland during the warmer months. Wear sturdy shoes since the paths are uneven and vegetation can be dense in places.

Military forces used the island as a retreat location during a conflict in the 1700s. Few traces remain of this wartime occupation in today's landscape.
