Kurhotel Schwerin-Zippendorf is a representative building situated ten meters above Lake Schwerin's water level, featuring 63 rooms with balconies and loggias. The location directly on the beach provides immediate access to the water and lakeside views.
The hotel was founded in 1910 by Kurhaus GmbH to establish Zippendorf as a health resort for wealthy visitors. During World War II, the building served as a military hospital and afterward returned to guest accommodation use.
The name Zippendorf comes from Slavic origins meaning swamp, reflecting the marshy terrain that once surrounded this lakeside area before it became fashionable. The location transformed from natural wetland into a destination where visitors could escape city life.
The building remains closed to the public, having stood empty since 1990 with various renovation projects unrealized over the decades. Visitors can walk along the nearby beach and lakefront path to view the exterior and enjoy the surrounding waterside environment.
Architect Paul Korff designed the building with modern features remarkable for 1910, including electric lighting throughout and a refrigerated room in the dining area. These technical innovations demonstrated the high standard expected by guests arriving to enjoy lake living.
