Kaunersteig

Kaunersteig is a mountain trail in the Berchtesgadener Alps that climbs from Saletalm to Gotzenalm, passing through forest and steep sections. The path offers views of the Königssee and the surrounding peaks throughout the walk.

The trail was significantly modified in 2019 following a mudslide that reshaped its lower section. Since then, it has been rated as more challenging for hikers.

This route represents a traditional Alpine hiking path, connecting mountain pastures and dairy farms that maintain centuries-old agricultural practices.

This trail requires solid hiking experience and proper equipment for the steep sections. Sturdy footwear and caution are important, especially in wet conditions.

The path winds through many serpentine turns that reveal the Königssee from changing angles. These turns make the climb feel varied and show the landscape from different perspectives.
