Nells Ländchen, Cultural heritage park in Trier, Germany
Nells Ländchen is a park in Trier that spans approximately 95,000 square meters with winding paths, diverse tree species, and rhododendron plantings throughout. A pond and rose garden containing hundreds of varieties add to its layout.
The grounds were established in 1792 as an English-style garden by Johann Nikolaus Nell, a canon at St. Paulin Monastery. Public access began in 1801.
The northern section contains a manor house from 1861 that operates as a hotel today. An obelisk within the grounds commemorates Johann Nikolaus Nell, the person who established this green space.
The park is open daily and welcomes visitors throughout all seasons. Several parking facilities are available nearby for convenient access.
Napoleon was so impressed by this garden that he awarded the landscape gardener Jakob Gotthard with a French dinner service. This recognition reflects how valued the work was at the time.
