The City Library at the Mailänder Platz is a modern library in Stuttgart with a distinctive cube design made of concrete and glass, rising 40 meters high. The interior spans multiple stories with bright reading areas and holds roughly half a million media items including books, magazines, DVDs, and digital resources.
The building opened in 2011 following a design by Korean architect Eun Young Yi and has shaped Stuttgart's cityscape since then. Its innovative design earned the Library of the Year award in 2013, quickly establishing it as an important cultural building in the city.
The Galerie b space inside presents visual arts, video installations, and digital work from regional and international artists. As visitors move through the building, they encounter these exhibitions organically, experiencing the library as a living venue for creative exchange.
The library opens Monday through Saturday and offers free Wi-Fi along with computer workstations for all visitors. The building features multiple entrances and is easily accessible, so visitors can stop by anytime and explore the different areas at their own pace.
The exterior of the library comes alive with blue lighting at dusk, making the white concrete structure stand out dramatically at night. From the rooftop garden, visitors can take in a wide view across the city and discover different neighborhoods from a fresh perspective.
