Stadthaus Dresden, Administrative building in Dresden, Germany.
Stadthaus Dresden is a municipal building in the city center that stretches along Theaterstraße with a distinctive curved facade. The six-story structure combines reinforced concrete with a cast stone exterior finish.
The building was constructed between 1922 and 1923 under architect Ludwig Wirth as an expression of Dresden's growth as an administrative center. It represented one of the new modern municipal buildings of the Weimar era.
The building shows how Dresden developed its modern administrative identity after World War I. Its curved facade and expressionist touches reflect the optimism of the 1920s.
The building is easily accessible in downtown Dresden and has wheelchair access for visitors. Its proximity to other public buildings and transit stations makes it convenient for exploring the city on foot.
The building survived the bombing raids on Dresden in 1944 and 1945 unscathed while much of the surrounding city was destroyed. It stands among the rare preserved examples of expressionist architecture from that era in the downtown area.
