Obock Region, Northern region in Djibouti.

The Obock region stretches across 4,700 square kilometers along the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Gulf of Tadjoura, featuring the Mabla Mountains and extensive coastlines.

French traders established their first colony in Obock through treaties with local rulers in 1862, seeking a strategic coal depot after the Suez Canal opening.

The area maintains strong connections to Afar traditions, with local communities practicing animal husbandry, fishing, and preserving traditional building techniques using mud and stone.

The region contains an operational airstrip and provides regular ferry services to Djibouti City, with boat journeys taking approximately two hours across the Gulf of Tadjoura.

The Seven Brothers archipelago and Doumeira Islands contain diverse marine ecosystems, while the Mabla Mountains house the second largest forest of Djibouti.
