The Great Sphinx, Ancient limestone monument in Giza, Egypt.

The Great Sphinx stands 20 meters tall and extends 73 meters in length, featuring a human head on a lion body carved from natural bedrock.

Created during the Fourth Dynasty around 2500 BCE, the statue likely represents Pharaoh Khafre who built the second pyramid of the Giza complex.

Egyptian craftsmen shaped this monumental guardian figure to protect the pyramid complex, establishing a lasting symbol of ancient Egyptian architecture.

Visitors can access the Sphinx viewing area from 8 AM to 5 PM daily, with tickets available at the Giza plateau entrance gates.

The limestone structure contains tunnels and chambers beneath its surface, discovered during multiple archaeological excavations since the 1800s.
