The pyramids of Giza consist of three primary structures: the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, forming a complex on a limestone plateau.
Between 2550 and 2490 BCE, Egyptian pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure directed the construction of these monumental tombs, which contained approximately 2.3 million limestone blocks.
The pyramid complexes included temples, boat pits, and decorated tombs depicting daily activities of ancient Egyptian life through detailed wall paintings and hieroglyphic inscriptions.
Visitors can access the pyramids through organized tours from Cairo, located 13 kilometers away, with the site opening daily from 8 AM to 4 PM.
The Great Pyramid measured 481 feet in height when built, with stone blocks weighing between 2.5 and 15 tons transported from quarries using the Nile River.
