Betanzos, Betanzos, human settlement in Betanzos, A Coruña Province, Galicia, Spain

Betanzos is a small town in Galicia situated along a river, featuring old stone buildings and narrow alleys throughout its center. The town contains a church with a tall tower, houses with terracotta roof tiles, small shops and bakeries, and stone bridges that cross the water.

Betanzos was one of the seven capitals of the ancient Kingdom of Galicia and played an important role in trade and agriculture. The medieval wall with gates such as Porta do Ponte Nova was built centuries ago and controlled access and the flow of goods through the town.

The town's name reflects its location along the river and its past as a trade center. Visitors can observe locals gathering in squares, celebrating traditional festivals with music and dancing, and selling local crafts such as ceramics and woven goods in markets.

The town is easy to explore on foot, especially the old center with its narrow alleys and squares. Visitors find pleasant paths along the riverfront and can use bridges across the water to connect different parts of the town.

Every August, a giant paper balloon is launched into the sky, one of the largest in the world and decorated with humorous drawings. This unique festival attracts visitors each year who come to witness this unusual spectacle.
