Ouvrage Col de Restefond, Military fortification in Jausiers, France
The Ouvrage Col de Restefond consists of three infantry blocks connected by underground galleries at an elevation of 2,680 meters in the French Alps.
The fortification, completed in 1934 and armed in 1938, formed part of the Alpine Line extension of the Maginot Line against potential Italian advances.
The structure represents a notable example of French military engineering during the interwar period, demonstrating the nation's defensive preparations.
The fortification incorporates two diesel generators for power supply and includes specialized equipment rooms, ammunition storage, and living quarters for 83 personnel.
Each block contains specific military features, including machine gun embrasures and observation cloches, positioned to control access through mountain passes.
