Ouvrage Restefond, Military fortification at Col de la Bonette, France

Ouvrage Restefond is a gros ouvrage of the Alpine Line set at 2,733 m between the Col de la Bonette and the Col de Restefond, on the Jausiers–Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage boundary. Its concrete blocks are scattered across the slope; the entry block by the D 64 road has a trapezoidal facade cast with "BL THINOD 06240", a dark opening and two rusty posts. Only blocks 3 and 6 were finished in 1939; 668 m of galleries lie 64 m below.

The fort was designed by the CORF, with its project approved in late 1929, and built during the 1930s on the border of Jausiers and Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage. Repeated modifications in 1930, 1932, 1934 and 1937, plus the difficulty of building at 2,733 m, left only blocks 3 and 6 finished in 1939. In June 1940 its single active artillery block, block 6, fired on Italian forces advancing toward the Col des Fourches.
