University of Côte d'Azur, French university created in 2015, which succeeds the University of Nice founded in 1965
The University of Côte d'Azur is a public institution in France with multiple campuses in Nice, Cannes, Menton, and Sophia Antipolis. Formed in 1965 by combining 18 institutions, it serves about 30,000 students with programs in law, sciences, engineering, medicine, and social sciences.
Its roots trace back to 1639 when the Princes of Savoy established the Collegium Jurisconsultorum Niciensium. Throughout the 20th century, various faculties and institutes grew until the modern university was formed in 1965.
The university takes its name from the Côte d'Azur region and reflects a connection between research and local community. The campus is a place where students from over 110 countries come together and experience daily international exchange while meeting in gardens and shared outdoor spaces.
The main campuses are spread across Nice, Cannes, and Menton and are easily accessible by foot or bicycle. Visitors will find libraries, study spaces, and recreational areas on each campus, as well as information points to help with orientation.
The 3IA Côte d'Azur Institute focuses on artificial intelligence and is one of France's leading centers in this field. This specialized cluster brings researchers together to work on solutions for smart cities and digital biology.
