Gardabani Managed Reserve

The reserve spans 34.84 square kilometers along the Mtkvari River bank near the Azerbaijan border, featuring wetland forests and diverse ecosystems.

The reserve emerged from a hunting farm established in 1957, transforming into a managed nature reserve following Georgia's 1996 environmental legislation changes.

The reserve connects to the broader Kakheti region, where archaeological findings from the Eneolithic period to Early Iron Age demonstrate continuous human presence.

Located 39 kilometers from Tbilisi, the reserve includes a hotel with a sauna, billiards room, and facilities for fishing activities.

The reserve protects the last remaining wetland population of Caucasian red deer, alongside 135 bird species and 25 other mammal species.
